R. 'Sunset Gold 50'

Vireya Rhododendron: 'Sunset Gold 50'

Flower inside thin edge of strong reddish orange blending lighter toward base, brilliant yellow throat; outside strong reddish orange at edge shading lighter brilliant yellow at base, tubular funnel-shaped, 2½ across, wavy lobes; color varies plant to plant.  Dome shaped truss holds 12 to 50 flowers.  Blooms fall to spring.  Leaves elliptic, acute apex, rounded base, 7" long, dull, moderate yellowish green, changing to grayish olive green when mature.  Open plant habit.  Grows to about 4 feet in 6 years.  Hardy to 35°F (2°C).  Hybridized by Snell.
