R. loranthiflorum ssp. loranthiflorum

 

Vireya Rhododendron: R. loranthiflorum ssp. loranthiflorum

Flower pure white, trumpet shaped, flared lobes, fragrant.  Truss holds 4 to 7 flowers.  Blooms several times a year.  Very floriferous.  Leaves obovate, acute apex, cuneate base, 2⅜" long, mid green, arranged in pseudowhorls.  Densely branched growth habit.  Grows to a height of about 8 feet in 10 years.  Species vireya found in the wild on offshore islands of Papua New Guinea.
