Elepidote Rhododendron: 'Scintillation'

Flower strong purplish pink shaded lighter towards center, flared greenish yellow markings in throat, outside deep purplish pink, openly funnel-shaped, wavy edges, 2½" across.  Held in ball-shaped trusses of 11-15 flowers.  Several forms exist of this hybrid.  Blooms midseason.  Leaves oblong, apiculate apex, rounded base, glossy, deep green, waxy texture.  Broad habit.  Grows to a typical height of 5 ft. in 10 years.  Cold hardy to -15°F (-26°C).  Hybridized by Dexter.

Lepidote Rhododendron: 'Mary Fleming'

Flower cream flushed strong to light purplish pink, darker blotch in throat, campanulate-shaped, wavy edged, about 1" across.  Buds hold 2 or 3 flowers.  Blooms early midseason.  Leaves approximately 2" long, dull, dark green.  Leaves are bronze when new and in the winter.  Plant is sun and heat tolerant.  Typical height: 2 ft. in 10 years.  Plant is cold hardy to -15°F (-26°C).  Prefers some shade for best performance.  Hybridized by Nearing.

Evergreen Azalea: 'Stewartstonian'

Flower moderate red with a slight flush of strong reddish orange along lower midribs in the throat, faint spotting of strong red on ventral lobe, openly funnel-shaped, 1" across.  Inflorescence is 2 flowered.  Blooms early midseason to midseason.  Leaves elliptic, ¾" long, glossy, green tinged red.  Leaves turn wine red in winter.  Dense, compact habit.  Grows to about 5 ft. in 10 years.  Cold hardy to -15°F (-26°C).  Hybridized by Gable.

Deciduous Azalea: R. alabamense

Flower white with a yellow blotch, tubular funnel-shaped, fragrant, ¾" to 1½" across.  Blooms midseason.  Leaves obovate to elliptic, hairy, often waxy, up to 3" long, deciduous.  Plant spreads by underground stolons.  Grows to a typical height of 4 ft. in 10 years.  Cold hardy to -5°F (-21°C).  Native species found in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida.
