R. 'Gloxineum'

Elepidote Rhododendron: 'Gloxineum'

Flower pink, slightly wavy-edged, 4½" across, with prominent golden flare on dorsal lobe, broadly funnel-shaped.  Blooms late midseason. Leaves narrowly elliptic, with distinct veining and re-curved edges.  Grows to a typical height of 5 ft. in 10 yrs.  Cold hardy to -15°F (-26°C).  Hybridized by Dexter.

 
R. 'Brittany'

Lepidote Rhododendron: 'Brittany'

Flower briefly pale yellow, then a mixture of pale and light yellowish pink, outside is moderate pink, widely funnel-shaped, 1⅝" across, wavy-edged.  Flat truss has 6 flowers.  Blooms late midseason.  Leaves elliptic, 1¾" long, glossy, mid green, retained 1 year.  Wide and compact habit when young, more upright with age.  Typical height: 3 ft. in 10 yrs.  Plant is hardy to -20°F (-29°C).  Hybridized by Mezitt.

 
R. 'Ground Hog'

Evergreen Azalea: 'Ground Hog'

Flower vivid purplish red with a large, burgundy-colored, speckled, dorsal blotch, broadly funnel-shaped, 2" across, wavy-edged lobes.  Inflorescence 3-4 flowered.  Blooms midseason.  Leaves elliptic, acute apex, cuneate base, flat, 1" long, glossy mid green.  Dense plant habit.  Grows to a typical height of 2 ft. in 10 yrs.  Cold hardy to -10°F (-23°C).  Hybridized by Mezitt.

 
R. schlippenbachii

Deciduous Azalea: R. schlippenbachii

Flower pale to deep pink, rarely white, 2½"-3" across, broadly rotate-funnel shaped.  Inflorescence 3-6 flowered.  Blooms early midseason.  Leaves broadly obovate, up to 4½" long, in whorls at branch tips, deciduous.  Upright, multi-stemmed shrub or small tree.  Grows to about 6 ft. tall in 10 years.  Hardy to -20°F (-29°C).  Found in the wild in Korea, northeastern Manchuria and eastern Russia.
