R. 'Vulcan'

Elepidote Rhododendron: 'Vulcan'

Flower blood red, unmarked, frilly edges, openly funnel-shaped, 2½" across.  Dome-shaped truss has about 10 flowers.  Blooms late midseason.  Leaves long, acute apex, cuneate base, glossy, dark green, lightly textured, red stems.  Mounding, somewhat open habit.  Grows to a typical height of 4 - 5 ft. in 10 years.  Flower bud hardy to -15°F (-26°C).   Heat and sun tolerant.  Registered as a clone, but several forms are known.

 
R. formosum

Lepidote Rhododendron: R. formosum

Flower white, sometimes tinged with rose or yellow in the throat or striped with rose, openly funnel-campanulate, fragrant.  Trusses hold 2-3 flowers.  Blooms early midseason to late midseason.  Leaves elliptic to linear obovate, up to 4½" long, hairy, shiny green on top, and waxy blue-green on bottom, margins bristly.  Plant is fairly compact but can become straggly.  Grows to about 4 ft. in 10 years.  Cold hardy to 10°F (-12°C).  Species native to India.

Evergreen Azalea: 'George Lindley Taber'

Flower white flushed moderate purplish pink, lighter at margins with a darker blotch and moderate purplish red spots, openly funnel-shaped, 3½" across.  Blooms midseason.  Leaves elliptic, 1½" long, light green.  Upright, spreading habit.  Reaches a height of 4-6 ft. in 10 years.  Cold hardy to -5°F (-21°C).   Selected by Hume.  Named by G. Tabor, Jr.

 
R. 'My Mary'

Deciduous Azalea: 'My Mary'

Flower tubular funnel-shaped, wavy lobes, 2½" across, fragrant, brilliant yellow with orange tube, no markings.  Conical trusses hold 25 flowers.  Blooms early midseason.  Leaves near narrowly obovate to elliptic, mucronate apex, cuneate base, 1¼" long.  Attractive, compact habit.  Grows to about 5 ft. in 10 years.  Cold hardy to 0°F (-18°C).  Insect and disease resistant.  Hybidized by Beasley.
