Elepidote Rhododendron: 'Horizon Monarch'

Flower greenish-yellow with a small, vivid red flare, openly funnel-shaped, wavy edged, 4" across.  Held in large ball-shaped truss of 5-8 flowers.  Blooms midseason.  Leaves elliptic, apiculate apex, cuneate base, concave, 6¾" long, olive green. Upright, spreading plant habit.  Grows to a typical height of 6 ft. in 10 yrs.  Cold hardy to 5°F (-15°C).  Hybridized by Brockenbrough.

Lepidote Rhododendron: burmanicum

Flower cream to yellow or greenish yellow, outside scaly, funnel-campanulate shape, 1" to 2" long, sometimes fragrant. Truss holds 4-6 flowers.  Blooms early midseason.  Leaves obovate or oblong-obovate, up to 3" long, dark or bright green, scaly.  Grows to a typical height of 4 ft. in 10 years.  Suitable for mild areas where minimum temperature doesn't go below 15°F (-9°C).  Native species found growing in the wild in S.W. Burma (Myanmar).

Evergreen Azalea: 'Caroline Gable'

Flower purplish-pink with a darker blotch, single, hose-in-hose, 1¾" across.  Blooms midseason to late midseason.  Leaves elliptic, glossy, dark green, turn reddish in cold weather.  Upright, spreading plant habit.  Grows to a typical height of 4 ft. in 10 years.  Cold hardy to -5°F (-23°C).  Hybridized by Gable.

Deciduous Azalea: 'Cecile'

Flower salmon pink with yellow blotch on upper lobe, tubular funnel-shaped, 3" to 5" across.  Ball-shaped, dense truss contains 8-11 flowers.  Blooms midseason to late midseason.  Leaves elliptic with acute apex and cuneate base, deciduous.  Upright, open habit.  Grows to a height of 6 ft. in 10 years.  Hardy to -5° F (-21° C).  Initially raised by Lionel de Rothschild.
