R. 'Captain Jack'

Elepidote Rhododendron: 'Captain Jack'

Flower strong red, faintly spotted darker, waxy, funnel-campanulate, 3½" across.  Held in trusses of 15-24 flowers.  Blooms late midseason.  Leaves elliptic, up to 8" long, unusual rolled edges, matt green.  New growth is silver.  Open, upright habit.  Prefers some shade for best performance.  Grows to a typical height of 6 ft. or more in 10 years.  Cold hardy to 0°F (-18°C).  Hybridized by Henny.

 
R. 'Fort Bragg 
Centennial'

Lepidote Rhododendron: 'Fort Bragg Centennial'

Flower yellowish-white with slight markings of pale greenish yellow inside, tubular funnel-shaped, 5½" across, of heavy substance, fragrant.  Lax truss holds five flowers.  Blooms late midseason.  Leaves elliptic, acute to apiculate apex, cuneate base, 6" long, flat, glossy, dark green.  Very dark, smooth, peeling bark.  Grows to an approximate height of 4 ft. in 10 years.  Suitable for temperate locations, cold hardy to 20°F (-7°C).  Raised by Bowman.

 
R. 'Betty Anne Voss'

Evergreen Azalea: 'Betty Anne Voss'

Flower reddish-purple with faint spotting, widely funnel-shaped, wavy, 3¼" across, hose-in-hose.  Inflorescence 2-4 flowered.  Blooms late midseason.  Leaves narrowly elliptic to elliptic, obtuse apex, cuneate base, glossy, glabrous, retained 3 years.  Round, dense habit.  Grows to a typical height of 2 ft. in 10 years.  Cold hardy to -10°F (-23°C).  Hybridized by Gartrell, named after his daughter.

 
R. 'Arneson Gem'

Deciduous Azalea: 'Arneson Gem'

Flower vivid yellow in throat, shading to reddish-orange at margins, outside red, widely funnel-shaped, 3¾" across.  Held in ball-shaped trusses with 10 to 15 flowers.  Blooms early midseason to midseason.  Leaves elliptic, apiculate apex, cuneate base, 2½" to 3½" long, slightly wrinkled above, slightly hairy below.  Upright, spreading habit.  Grows approximately 3 ft. tall in 10 years.  Cold hardy to -15°F (-26°C).  Hybridized by Arneson.
